The Well in the Wilderness

Today's Verse

“From there they continued to Beer; that is the well of which the Lord said to Moses, 'Gather the people together, and I will give them water.' Then Israel sang this song 'Spring up, O well! Sing to it! the well that the leaders sank, that the nobles of the people dug, with the scepter, with the staff.' And from the wilderness to Mattanah” Numbers 21:16–18

The well has great similarities with God himself. We need to understand that water is a huge necessity in the wilderness. Lack of water can cause dehydration and eventually death. The well in the wilderness provides hope for those who are traveling. It also brings satisfaction for it quenches our thirst. The well in the wilderness is remarkably unending. Remember Jesus when he asked the Samaritan woman to draw water from the well? That was Jacob’s well. That means the well lasted for hundreds of years and it still has more water. This reminds us that God is like the well. He is our only hope, the one that can truly satisfy us, and His provisions are unending just like the water in the well.

Responding to God's Blessings

Today's Verse

“What shall I render to the Lord, for all his benefits to me?” – Psalm 116:12

The verse contains a beautiful question that every Christian should ask. We all know that whatever we give to God, even if we would give to Him all the riches in this world, these can never match or even equal all the blessings that we have received from Him. But the good thing is that God would gladly accept any offering as long as we offer it with sincerity and love for Him. God is more concerned with the attitude of the giver rather than the amount of the offering. Like the attitude of David when he said, “I will not offer anything that cost me nothing” (2 Samuel 24:24) and the widow who offered only two small coins in the temple (Luke 21:2). But the best offering that we can give to God is our bodies as a living sacrifice, that are holy and acceptable to Him. (Romans 12:1).

Training Your Child

Today's Verse

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

Parents are a child’s first teacher. Whether we like it or not, our children learn from us. This verse tells us that we should train our children in the way that they should go. Training is not an easy task; yet it can be so rewarding. Remember that you are not alone. After all, we have the ultimate teacher at hand to lead us and teach us in the way to raise our children. Remember that we are God's children; created in his image. Your children will come to you with many questions; just as you take your questions to God. Don't let "society" raise your children. Train them with spiritual guidance and bring them up knowing Jesus. The Bible is the best training manual there is.

Hope

Today's Verse

"The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him." Lamentations 3:25

Hope is one of those amazing words that gets frequently used in our day to day life. In what context do you use it? Do you hope for fame and fortune, or power and status? When you stop and think about it there is so much to hope for, but are we hoping for the things that truly matter? Hope is a gift from God, and therefore, we should use it accordingly. Fame, fortune, power, and status, to name just a few, can be taken away in a moment, but hope in God is forever. God gives us hope and hope gives us courage. Hope is powerful, when we use it in the context of what God wants for us. It thrives in the bleakest of circumstances and encourages us through desperate times and situations. Let's put our hope in God and thank Him accordingly.

Separation Anxiety

Today's Verse

"Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the Lord; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men." – 1 Kings 18:22

Due to persecution, the prophet Elijah was separated from the rest of the world. Though a strong man of God, Elijah's weaknesses were revealed in this trouble, and are an example to us of how to respond when we are separated from the rest of the world by God. First, separation should draw us unto the Savior, not into self-pity. Elijah was in a prime position for remarkable spiritual fellowship with God, but instead he was focused on the pain of persecution. Second, we must understand that separation is an act of God's providence in our relationships. Though Elijah seems to treat his separation as though it was a punishment for his actions; God wants us to know that separation is His way of moving us from situations that do us spiritual or bodily harm. And finally, we must remember God's ultimate purpose and promise to the church when we are separated. Elijah forgot God's promise to always leave a remnant of Godly seed upon the Earth, and lost sight of the necessary persecutions that would prepare the world for the Savior. Learn from Elijah and do not become anxious over separation.

The Nurtured Life

Today's Verse

“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the spirit of the Lord.” - II Corinthians 3:18

One of the most fulfilling jobs that a person can hope to acquire is that of a student teacher. They are under the guidance of a mentor who carefully patterns their training and development. They learn how to effectively shape young minds to be the workers of tomorrow, and meaningful members of a changing world. The nurtured life is like a student’s life in many aspects. You are constantly learning and growing. We welcome the Lord’s presence into our life with a humbled heart of love. His beautiful presence then fills us to overflowing. It slowly becomes a part of who we are, and begins to transform our willing man into that same wondrous image. The Lord wraps His arms around us, blesses us, and helps us to grow. Draw closer to the Lord, and be nurtured by his presence today.
